When We Were Very Young
When my boy was very young,
I could read him anything,
anything at all, and he would
listen raptly.
We snuggled with my little
green book of Milne poems
and I read the singing lyrics
and he heard them and kept
them. He wrote his own
couplet based on "Spring
Morning" and used
Robert Louis Stevenson
(A Child's Garden of Verses)
to talk about swinging or
bees.
This was pre-diagnosis
and before he was two.
One of the wonders of
the time when your child
is very young is the freedom
to read whatever you both
enjoy without concerns about
comprehension or skills.
If your child will let you,
keep some of that time in
your lives forever. Read
sometimes with no thought
other than we like what we
are reading together.
And help me do it! My ten
year old rarely reads or listens
raptly anymore.
Part of my quest here is
to seek those books that
he can read in that same
free way.
Embrace your child &
a book this weekend,

The delights of out of copyright. Amazon has
no image for the collector's ACGV pop up book.
There's a baby book available too. And how
about that Gene Kelly cd?
